A trademark by Ubisoft for the title Child of Light has led back to a panel registration for GDC Europe, providing some early and surprising details on the game. Perhaps most significant is that despite Child of Light's development at Ubisoft Montreal, its a small-scale project in terms of both team and budget size. The project's lead, Patrick Plourde, has named the panel, "Small Projects in AAA Studios: Making of Child of Light".
What sort of game does that make Child of Light? Well, I suppose we'll have to wait and see at GDC Europe. All that's really covered in the panel description is that it's an "intimate" game:
"After working for many years on some of the biggest productions in the AAA game industry, Patrick challenged himself to create a game that would be the opposite: a small team, a small budget, and an intimate scope."
Patrick, a Creative Director at Ubisoft, has experience working on Assassin's Creed II, Rainbow Six: Vegas and Far Cry 3. What he's got in store for us with Child of Light is, well, surprisingly exciting to hear about.
