I'll be honest, I don't really know anything about the third-person action franchise of Drakengard (Drag-On Dragoon), but I do know there's a good fan-base for the franchise in the western world. Both the first and second Drakengard have been published overseas, as well as the spin-off Nier, but for some reason Drakengard 3 has yet to receive the same treatment. That won't stop us from watching trailers however.
Today's debut trailer shows off a little bit of every aspect from Drakengard 3. There's a bit of storyboard plot, some cinematic, a bit of third-person ground combat and then that wonderful aerial dragon combat too. And, well, we get more than an eyeful of protagonist Zero, flower growing from her eye and all. Oh, and blood too. Lots of blood everywhere.
Drakengard 3 will be launching in Japan on October 31 exclusively on the PlayStation 3. Considering we're at the end of a console generation, unless we hear news of a localization soon it's tough to tell whether the game will ever come overseas. Drakengard 2 took almost a full year to reach North America, but that might be a profitable option for many localizers these days.
I doubt fans of the manga will rest until it happens, though. And if there's one thing I've learned about about the gaming community, it's to never underestimate their ability to rise up for what they really want. Guess we'll see.
