In sad news today IGN has learned that id Software's longtime President Todd Hollenshead has left the company to pursue other personal interests. Point man at Quake Con and inarguably associated with the business end of id's past successes, it's sad to see the man leaving id in what could be its darkest hour. I speak of course of the studio's current issues with Doom 4, but I digress.
Bethesda PR Manager Pete Hines gave the following comment:
"After many years with the studio, Todd Hollenshead decided to leave id Software to pursue other personal interests. While Todd was not part of the development teams, he was an integral part of id Software’s success as the business head of the studio and we wish him the very best in his future endeavors."
Whether or not it had any effect on Hollenshead's decision to leave id, it's worth noting that In early April rumors spread and were later confirmed that Doom 4 had been scrapped and a new version begun. That and the rumored cancelation of Rage 2 led the discussion that id might be on the rocks with Bethesda and ZeniMax. Could Hollenshead's departure be part of of that turmoil? Either as an effect or part of the solution?
Whatever the reason for his departure, Todd Hollenshead has always been a great representative for id and we wish him well in the future. Hopefully he turns around quickly and finds another place in the industry where he can help make more great games.
