In a staff blog over on the BioWare forums, the development studio slipped in the first officially released in-engine screenshot from Dragon Age: Inquisition. It's even got that little Frostbite 3 logo in the bottom right corner so everyone can tell it's official. In the shot we see some sort of leader or official hovering over a table with a dagger, the table covered in a large map that appears to be used for war strategy. A row of armored soldiers lines the far side of the table. One thing's for sure, it couldn't be anything but Dragon Age.
It's difficult to say just how much of an improvement the Frostbite 3 engine upgrade is based off of a single screenshot, but I can't say I'm particularly impressed with what I see. The detail on each soldier's armor, the shadowing and the background in particular look fantastic. Then I look at the main figure's hair and my jaw drops. It's Lego hair. It's the hair I put on my dwarf in Lord of the Rings: Online years ago. It's plastic, unmoving, jaggy, and way out of place in this screenshot. It's very... it's very Dragon Age!
Dragon Age: Inquisition is scheduled for release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in late 2014. There's still time to save the hair! There's still time! Check out the game's E3 debut trailer starring our old friend Morrigan.
Note: As Lydia pointed out in the comments the "dude" in the screenshot is most likely Cassandra from Dragon Age 2 and the soldiers behind the table Seekers of the Chantry (as seen in the trailer). However, I still think Lydia should add Lego hair to her list of mistakes that need fixing in Dragon Age Inquisition.
Update: Two additional screenshots have been released:
