Not to be outdone by Call of Duty: Ghosts, Killzone: Shadow Fall developers Guerilla have decided to introduce the OWL. What is the OWL? How about a flying drone companion used by all Shadow Marshals to help give them battlefield advantages. It just attaches to their suit to repair and then flies off to spread more havoc. Yeah okay, that's cool Guerilla, but can a robot drone have a realistic tattoo on the inside of its ear?
In addition to just being a badass companion, the OWL also has four different combat modes to help the player in a variety of situations:
- Attack Mode orders the OWL to move to an area and attack anyone within range; alternatively, you can tell it to attack a single enemy directly.
- Zipline Mode gets the OWL to fire a zipline, allowing the Shadow Marshal to traverse incredibly quickly from point A to B.
- Stun Mode is similar to Attack Mode, but lets the OWL use up its energy to create an area-of-effect shock blast that turns off all nearby electronics and stuns humanoid enemies within range.
- Lastly, Shield Mode creates an energy shield right in front of the Shadow Marshal, allowing bullets/projectiles to pass through from his POV but stopping bullets coming in from the other side.”
Now let's just hope the OWL doesn't start talking with a British accent, am I right?
Killzone: Shadow Fall is planned for release as a launch title for the PlayStation 4, confirmed for the holiday season. In the trailer below there's a bit of OWL gameplay, but mostly it's just great to watch considering how outstanding the graphics look. This is a console game! Jeez, what are we getting ourselves into?
