The Yukes/Visual Concepts developed WWE 2K14 will be coming to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on October 29, 2013. Startlingly, however, 2K14's debut trailer titles "Become Immortal" looks startlingly similar to WWE '13. Did Yukes reach its maximum potential with '13? Should we expect a retread of the same experience? WWE 2K14 will be 2K's first venture as they acquired the license from now dissolved THQ, but if the debut trailer is the best they've got it might be time to get worried.
Let's go over the trailer. We've got a cast of popular characters from wrestling's not so distant past including Rock, Macho Man and Stone Cold. We've got some impressive finishing move animations, some voiceover audio that may or may not be representative of what's actually in the game, and... that's it. Is that enough to make you preorder? The Rock is on the box art, how about that?
WWE 2K14 will launch October 29, but will it be proof that 2K's going to take the franchise above and beyond our expectations or just more of the same. I wouldn't set expectations very high, and that's not to say WWE '13 was a bad game, but at least personally I was hoping for something a bit more compelling than what the debut trailer had to offer.
All that's "Become Immortal" here is Yukes' influence over the WWE game franchise.
