It's not a tablet, but it helps if they can pretend it is. People are happy spending $700 on a tablet, but think $300 for a handheld console is heaps. Pushing the tablet features may soften the blow for people. It's all in their minds anyway really
I think a lot of it is that no matter what, a playstation or an Xbox is still just a video game console to a lot of people and most people have a limit on what they're willing to pay for them. Heck, I remember when handhelds were only $100 or so.

Mobile devices on the other hand are like handheld PCs, to the point people buy them in place of budget PCs for basic tasks (e-mail, facebook, ect.). If you compare PC prices to tablet prices its not too hard to see why people are willing to pay so much for one Consoles have sold themselves as alternatives for certain devices but most of the things the Vita could do as a tablet most people already have a device that does those things.

[color=maroon]So Sony just said "*bleep* it this won't sell as a handheld lets make it into a glorified tablet controller with buttons".
Yeah, you can make it look as negative as possible. But maybe they're touting its strengths. Tablets sell, and the Wii-U's only appeal is having a super-expensive screen-in-your-hands. Why not push the Vita as having the same features? That's how marketing works.

Doesn't mean much to me though, I think they need games more than anything. Companies are always trying to release these consoles that have huge amounts of features, it's meaningless without games. People buy them for the games.
It's a direction the Xbox One is taking more recently, and they've had to push the games, because without them no one cares.
Tablets sell but a video game handheld with no games do not. And vita is no tablet.

This is a cool feature but I worry that this will be the extent of the Vita, a glorified PS4 handheld (when in internet range) that you will probably have to do through Gaikai. Sony has really just treated it like shit which is a shame because I have all these awesome games I got from PS+.

I'd get a vita immediately if it weren't for the horrible memory card prices and lack of bright future.

I grabbed Shinobido 2, Unit 13, Ninja Gaiden, Soul Sacrifice, MGS2 & 3, Blazeblue (PS+ free), Gravity Rush (PS+ free), Uncharted: Golden Abyss (PS+ free), and Colors, and haven't played the games much at all. The games are 'alright', but there's not enough variety (yet) to keep me glued to it. The best game so far is Soul Sacrifice, followed by Gravity Rush, and while both are stellar games it's painful to see both of them limited to a handheld. You play these games and you want the full console experience out of them and know it's likely not going to happen anytime soon.

I use the vita mostly for youtube, netflix, movies, the cameras, and some minor web browsing. With the vita only having garbage AT&T for it's 3g service that feature will never be used by me, and that limits a lot of the intended functionality.

What with the pairing of the PS4 though, that'll be the game-changer it needs, especially if it can utilize any Gaikai options down the line as well. As is, remote play is far too laggy and won't work for PS2&PS3 games, and there's no point in using it for PS1 games when the vita can run PS1 games on its own, as can the PS2, PSP and PS3.

The vita can run PSP titles as well, but the digital prices for inferior PSP titles is still way too high right now and not worth it just yet. (Imo, no PSP title should be selling for more than 15$ USD).

Right now there's little point in getting a Vita. I'd say it's best to hold out for when the PS4 releases and it gets much needed features to up the ante.

No thanks, memory cards are to expensive.
It's OK...Memory cards are kind of expensive but I recommend using only 8GB if you intend to buy physical copies only, like I do!
But the only thing that makes a Vita worthwhile as of now is Playstation Plus.
Kind of, I guess! But, Killzone: Mercenary is a must have for any PS Vita gamers!!!!
if only the must haves weren't so pricey all the time :/
I agreed; nevertheless, Capitalism, in effect, forbids the retail price to go lower for PSVita, its must-have games and memory cards....

Happens all the time. There are people who get their jollies out of down-voting the crap out of everything.
oh but it's more than that, some users around here just tend to take it more serious than it really is

so why do we use a point & click rate system anyway? i kinda like it when people in a mature environment explain each other why they like or dislike what others say. it helps people understand each other for what is possible on the internet.

[color=navy]Is someone seriously down-voting any and all negative comments about the Vita?
it's a platform of choice article. when folks criticize it's success or even crack a joke about it there's always 1 guy out there zero bombing the thread

Except I see more negative comments than positive.

I just find Sony's strategy rather interesting; the way they're using the PS4 as a means of selling the Vita like it's some glorified peripheral. Yes, a glorified peripheral that costs only about $100 more than the PS4.

But I can't blame them. It's a strategy, at the end of the day, and I'm sure they don't want a repeat of the PSgo or PSPgo or whatever.

A cool feature but disappointed nonetheless, but hey maybe the next convention will finally be about the vita unlike the last 10!!

Remote Play just doesn't interest me, if it works well or not. I'll keep using my Vita for PS titles (Final Fantasy collection at the moment) and the PS3/PS4 for titles released on them.

If it works though, then fair play as I'm sure some would like this feature but the additional costs of £150+ just for it is steep if you don't already own a Vita. Also it's not like the Vita is offering us to much pleasure and this isn't enough to make many just buy it with whats already available. I do somewhat regret purchasing the Vita.
