SEGA's starting a thing with porting old Genesis games to the 3DS, adding a 3D effect, save states and some other features and putting games out there. Last week they announced 3D Ecco the Dolphin and 3D Galaxy Force II would soon be added to a list of four other titles already available in Japan. Global release is expected... soon? We can add another title to the list today too, as 3D Shinobi III popped up in the PEGI ratings board's database.
Sega's Japanese website for their 3D releases include the following, but keep in mind these are all Japan exclusive for now:
- Sonic The Hedgehog
- Space Harrier
- Super Hang-On
- Altered Beast
- Ecco the Dolphin (June 26)
- Galaxy Force II (No announced release date)
Yus, two games are unreleased, Ecco and Galaxy Force, and then two games are currently unannounced. The heart of the mystery here is that we don't know when or if any of these titles will be coming to the international community's eShop. Some might, some may not. It's odd then that one of the first titles we see making it past a ratings board, 3D Shinobi III, is one of the few titles Sega has yet to even announce.
I'm going to peg the mystery down to the messed up nature of licensing and publishing out there. Odds are most of these games will be coming to the 3DS eShop soon. After all, why not? They're just old games.
