It seems like just yesterday the European chain store Media Markt was leaking console release dates. Oh, that was yesterday. Well, they're at it again today only this time for the Xbox One instead of the PlayStation 4. Today's leak comes via Twitter, where an official Media Markt España representative tweeted the console would be on store shelves November 26. Also, something about plums.
Here's the full tweet, which may give better perspective into my ignorant plum joke above:
ÚLTIMA HORA: Xbox One en todas las tiendas Media Markt el 26 de Noviembre. PUUUUUUUM!!!— Media Markt España (@MediaMarkt_es) June 21, 2013
In the replies that followed said tweet, a reader asked if the release date was, "Confirmado 100 x 100?" By which he's asking if it's confirmed 100%. Media Markt replied to them with a big ol' yes.
Same rules apply here as they did with yesterday's PS4 release date leak rumor thing. It's not officially official until it comes out of Microsoft's mouth. Release dates this early are entirely subject to change. Lastly, this is, even if 100% correct, still only a Spain release date and not a guarantee that the Xbox One will release globally on that same date. However, as far as rumors go, this one seems relatively solid.
If we go over our console release date "rules" that we did with the PlayStation 4 yesterday, everything seems to be in order. It's a November release, it's before Black Friday on November 29 (Thanksgiving being on the 28). It even fits an extra rule, which is that it's launched on a Tuesday. It stretches the same rule the PlayStation 4 does though, which is it's late compared to other console releases in the past dozen years. The PS4, if its leaked date is correct, would be early.
What does this mean for the console war? Who knows and who cares. If the leaks prove true the PS4 will launch November 13 and the XONE will release November 26. That's a couple of weeks difference, which could mean a couple of things: PS4 gets to market earlier and steals the buzz, or the Xbox One hits the perfect timing right before Black Friday and creates a storm of excitement. Either can and probably will happen to some extent. Console war hype, go!
