Great.. Now I not only have to choose carefully which console I have to get because of exclusives I have to do the same with graphics cards.. Thought PC gaming didn't have this nonsense.

Optimized for AMD, still better on Nvidia.

Game launches that were rough on Nvidia users have been very few, even the Tomb Raider one was mostly regarding TressFX.

It's not like anyone would be waiting too long for better drivers anyway.

@ Keefah

Because there totally isn't any bias and optimization for Nvidia? You must not have played as many games on the PC if you don't remember the "Nvidia: The way it's meant to be played" opening videos, especially with practically every game running on the Unreal Engine from version 2 and up.

Hmmm...Some say PS4 can beat any high-end PCs until late 2014 in terms of graphics, Nice

Who's saying that? PS4's graphics “has almost 2 teraflops of computational performance”, to quote Sony. A high-end video card like the GTX 780 is more than double that.

Excuse me?

Sometimes teraflops get caught up in the floopenhopper and you gotta goop them out with a forplegorp. You try gooping a teraflop out without getting bloppins everywhere. Is it still funny then, funny man? Huh?

Computers hard.

The facts are:

PS4 uses GDDR5 memory which enables for faster transfer with reduced latency between CPU and GPU. This isn't expected to present a tangible performance benefit for the majority of titles since they will be optimised to run on the more widely implemented DDR3 memory in PC's and XBone. It will benefit filters and post processing, which might be relatively scarcely implemented due to lack of raw processing power on the APU.

Unified memory and the APU enable for unprecedented cooperation between the CPU and GPU in the consoles reducing transfer related bottlenecks which in tandem with low level hardware access will give the consoles a drastic increase in computational power efficiency over traditional PC architectures.

That said PC hardware is already 2-3x more powerful that console hardware at the high end, has less stringent thermal restrictions and higher power availability. Windows PC's also share the same kernel and Direct X with the XBone and the same x86 architecture as both the PS3 and XBone, meaning that ports will be far more efficient than in last gen reducing the loss in performance of identical spec'd PC hardware vs the Consoles.
The GPU also uses GCN which is consistent between AMD graphic cards on computer and console.

All this implies that at MOST the PS4 will perform at par with PC's relatively high range PC's and get smashed by ultra high end PC's. Console fanboys can fanboy all they want but those are the facts.

*Used PS4 in comparison since it is technically superior to the XBone, not sure how Microsoft intend to use the cloud to boost the processing power of the XBone considering latency in internet connections and transfer rates.

Well said.
