Final Fantasy XV has been announced, though the revelation that it once was Final Fantasy Versus XIII may make it a little harder to be excited about. Yes, originally unveiled in 2006 alongside Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Type-0, Versus XIII's transformation into XV must be quite complicated. It's still technically part of the "Fabula Nova Crystallis" mythology, but now it's.. something more.
In the trailer twelve characters are shown, some of them recognizable from previous showings of Final Fantasy Versus XIII. In fact, the game hasn't really changed in any way. Lucis Caelum is still the protagonist, son of a mafia-like family and protector of crystals. How the story revolves around him, or how it entwines these characters is a mystery left to be unfolded.
Still, the game takes place in a different world of Final Fantasy XIII and is only thematically connected, if that connection remains at all. There's cares and men wear make-up, or maybe that's not true, but it's definitely a completely new setting. The director even seems to refer to the project as Versus still. There's just got to be more to this than meets the eye.
Final Fantasy XV has only been confirmed for the PlayStation 4 at this point. No other information was shared. Expect to see the trailer just as soon as Square Enix makes it readily available, though there's probably cams and recording otherwise available on the net.
Update: Final Fantasy XV has been confirmed for Xbox One. Both consoles, go!
