Many gamers are wondering what exactly Deus Ex: The Fall looks like in terms of gameplay. Is this a true Deus Ex experience? Will Deus Ex: Human Revolution players feel at home? A series of new screenshots and a gameplay trailer may answer some of those questions, but really we'll only see a version of the game that Square Enix wants us to see.
After all, Deus Ex: The Fall is a tablet and mobile game, so the gameplay we're seeing is missing one very important thing: fingers. One of the greatest complaints about action games on platforms with touch controls is that fingers hog so much of the viewing angle. While the action may look smooth and tactile based off of video recordings, how does that translate to action where your hands are slipping across the screen mashing some cyborg with your index finger, hoping the shotgun will bloody well go off.
With that point noted, one thing's very clear. Deus Ex: The Fall looks a lot like Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Square Enix's mobile division has done a great job recreating the atmosphere of the console game -- that is, putting a thin layer of gold everything. Oh, and there's the hacking, the cover-based shooting, the breaking through walls to smash a dude's face, the... erm, exact same vents.
Deus Ex: The Fall will be coming to iOS devices this summer, with an Android release further down the line. Look for some hands-on impressions from E3 coming next week.
