Ah! If I see anymore epic E3 trailers for next-gen games that won't be coming out until 2014 I'll have a stroke. Here's Square Enix and Eidos Montreal's E3 trailer for Thief, coming to PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in 2014. While most of the trailer is live action, there are a few glimpses at gameplay early on -- Garrett climbing, sneaking into the shadows. This "Garrett the Master Thief" trailer simply isn't enough to hold anyone over.
Here's the verse that Garrett speaks over top of the action going on in the trailer. Garrett's obviously a master of seduction:
Stealing is my way of life; it sets me free in the night.
Every rivet and stitch lets me find what I desire.
The cloth that hides me, the tools that arm me…
all lead to that priceless moment.
You make think you caught me, but think again
Because when I want something I always get it.
I am Garrett.
Did you miss me?
It's worth noting that not a single person was killed in the trailer, though that guard certainly tried to kill Garrett. Even at the end of the trailer, when Garrett pulls back that, uh, monstrosity of a compound bow (seriously guys, this isn't Crysis), violence is only lightly implied. Maybe Garrett is using it as a distraction, or perhaps he's shooting a rope... erm, down the hallway. No violence! Hooray!
This week's announcement of Deus Ex: The Fall likely left a bit of a sinking feeling in many gamers' stomachs. It should be comforting to know that Eidos Montreal hasn't forgotten about the Deus Ex franchise, they're just hard at work on Thief. If you're a fan of Deus Ex, you'll be a fan of Thief. Then after we're all done with Thief and wondering when the sequel to that will come next... they'll drop Deus Ex back on us. I want my cake and pie right now and forever more, please.
Thief is planned for release in 2014 for the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
