Spiders may not be the most well known game studio around, but it does offer some very compelling games like Mars: War Logs and Of Orcs and Men. It seems like another title may soon join those ranks, as Bound by Flame is due to arrive by the end of this year for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. Bound by Flame is an action/RPG in a "Dark Fantasy" universe where players control a mercenary possessed by a flame demon. Today two new screenshots have been shown off, and man does it look good.
The screenshots show off some of the unique monsters you'll be facing in Bound by Flame, which has a bestiary featuring shadow dragons, liches, undead, ice creatures, and many more. That apparently also includes creatures we're not familiar with, like the freaky two-legged nautilus-types and a gigantic demon troll in the shots below. Visually the game is already looking great, and it should given how gorgeous Mars: War Logs looks.
Bound by Flame's customizable (gender and facial features for sure) main character is possessed by a flame demon, and you have to decide whether to accept the demonic powers or reject its influence. Giving into temptation grants strong abilities, but you lose part of your soul and your body starts to undergo a demonic transformation. Staying away from the demon's influence means you develop more heroic qualities and talents. No word on whether the path of virtue is reflected on your character's appearence, but there could be more information on that later.
Throughout the game's chapters, a large variety of quests are offered alongisde the main, epic story. Different actions and the amount of the demon's influence create a replayable adventure, so your game can be unique each time. Battles are handled in real-time, with players able to unlock and improve in three skill trees to become masters of combat, fire magic, or assassination. And maybe a blend of all three so you can be a jack-of-all-trades.
The game even includes a crafting system so players can make and improve their own weapons and armor. Companions can join you on your quest, and based on your actions can lead to friendship, romance, or a rivalry.
Expect more information on Bound by Flame during E3 next week, which hopefully includes the exact nature of the player's quest.
