It's not quite DayZ and it's not quite Dead Island, it's State of Decay and it's now confirmed to be released on XBLA this Wednesday. If you've been looking for an open-world survival experience in the midst of a zombie apocalypse, but wanted it for your console instead of messing with those PC shenanigans then this one's for you. Ah, let's be real -- if you want to turn around and suddenly realize four zombies are going to devour you unless you perform a miracle, then State of Decay is for you.
Like DayZ and other zombie open-world survival horror games, in State of Decay survival is the priority. Finding water, bandages, weapons, ammo and shelter is priority one and never stops being a priority. Unlike other games, however, there's a bit more to State of Decay. Players can collect building materials and erect their own base with watch towers, and other buildings. Players can then bring NPC characters to their base to help defend or perform other useful tasks. It's rather like Terraria meets DayZ, but with a leveling system for weapons. It's a bit complicated, which is why it's worth checking out.
State of Decay is releasing on XBLA June 5 for 1600MSP. No, it doesn't have multiplayer, thought that will potentially be added at a later date. State of Decay is basically the prototype of the MMO version of the game, Class4, that will be released down the road. State of Decay is Class3, the single-player story experience that builds into Class4. It's an experiment that's likely well worth consideration.
