Update: Eidos Montreal has just released a less subtle teaser for Deus Ex: The Fall. Another Vine, only this time it's the actual logo for whatever Deus Ex: The Fall is, along with the date 6/5/2013. That's next Thursday. This week is already insane.
Err, the Vine has since been taken down. I can confirm its existence, and the original tweet still exists, but Vine shows a broken link. I'll update as soon as it's back up.
We're less than a week away from E3, so let the landslide of teasers commence! Eidos Montreal dropped a juice one via Twitter today, leaving two messages that could imply an impending announcement for Deus Ex: The Fall. Those who keep up with these things may recall Deus Ex: The Fall was a domain registered by Square Enix back in early March. We may end up waiting for E3 to find out.
What exactly did Eidos Montreal say, you ask? Here are the two tweets that should make every Deus Ex fan suspicious:
Are YOU ready for The Fall?— Eidos-Montréal (@eidosmontreal) June 3, 2013
Yes, the first tweet is painfully obvious, right? The second is actually what complicates the matter. Who is Ben Saxon? Well, Ben is a character from the Deus Ex expanded universe, starring in the novel Deus Ex: Icarus Effect which was released in February 2011. Ben's story ended on somewhat of a cliffhanger, implying we'd be hearing from Ben again. Is that what we can expect from Deus Ex: The Fall?
All signs point to this being the next big Deus Ex game from Eidos Montreal. The fact that it's the developer's Twitter account teasing, the fact that it's Square Enix who filed the trademark for Deus Ex: The Fall, the fact that the teasers are coming the week prior to E3.
However, there's contrary evidence too, the big one being that Eidos Montreal is already hard at work on Thief for release in 2014. They're not exactly a multi-project studio, either. We could simply be looking at another book announcement, or perhaps some sort of really small game to build up hype for the now known Deus Ex movie.
Basically, what I'm trying to say is this is 100% rumor until we hear otherwise. A 100% rumor that it's totally okay to get super hyped for, considering E3 is just around the corner and Deus Ex: Human Revolution was an outstanding game. What is Deus Ex: The Fall? We'll find out soon.
