Prepare yourselves, the Sonic Lost World debut trailer has just been released and -- wait for it -- it looks pretty damn fun. Mixing 2D and 3D gameplay, taking some clear inspiration from Super Mario Galaxy, and respecting Sonic's roots, Sonic Lost World may have finally found the formula for success. Of course, it could also fall in the same trap of sloppy level design and ridiculous plot. Only time will tell.
Still, many folk were skeptical about Sega's partnership with Nintendo for Sonic Lost World. Perhaps a step back in graphics and a step up in gameplay was exactly what the franchise needed, however. From what I can tell Sonic looks fast when he needs to be, he looks like he's got solid platforming controls when he needs them, and he looks like he's got plenty of nostalgic 2D throwback gameplay. Those enemies look a little... well, dumb, but maybe they'll grow on me.
Coming 2013, expect Sonic Lost World exclusively for the 3DS and Wii U. He's back, he's in 3D, and while it isn't the next Sonic Adventure, it may be the adventure Sonic truly needs. Forgive us for the watermark, but IGN has the exclusive on this trailer.
