I'm pretty sure there are already current gen games that look like this. Crytek released an image of what Cryengine 3 looks like on the Xbox one. It was a freakin Iguana and it looked better than most of what IW has shown already.

It doesn't matter if they actually put some effort for the next gen, because we can all assure this engine will be copied and pasted onto the next few games with "edited lighting" or "extra polygons" as their only accomplishment. They apparently added vaulting, sliding, and leaning to the game as well.

Vaulting - I would say Battlefield but I'm not exactly certain if its vaulting. But I know for a fact it was in Brink.
Sliding - Crysis 2 and 3, and it was in MoH: Warfighter, it wasn't the best sliding mechanics but it was still in there.
Leaning - If it means lean from around a corner, then that was also in MoH: Warfighter.
So the apparent unique additions aren't even unique.

I'm not directing this at anyone specifically, but it's funny how I heard nothing but praise about this new engine when it was first revealed. Everyone was making comments like, "oh, wow, Activision's doing something right."

Now that it's attached to a COD title however, all I'm hearing is it looks like a joke. It's strange how people work.

Personally, I think it looks fine. It's not mind-blowing by any means, but it's an adequate visual improvement.

Anyway, I'm more concerned with how this new engine will affect gameplay. Not sure how I feel about the leaning in multiplayer for one thing.

I remember when, before the internet was so functional and popular, people would simply not buy a game they didn't like. Now it seems like blasphemy if you don't get online and tell fans how stupid they are for liking a series you don't.

On the engine, it's nothing we haven't seen yet, but when I'm maxing out Crysis 3 and Metro: Last Light, none of the supposed "new tech" seems so mindblowing, so I'll take it as what it is. These all look like they could be enjoyable changes to the CoD formula to me, and I am really looking forward to those changes in multiplayer. It seems like they're trying to stray from the "realistic" feel of gameplay, and trying to embrace the faster, more arcade-like gameplay that CoD really offers, and I like that. Also, if Dead to Rights proved anything, it's how cool ordering a dog to maul your opponents is.

What they're forgetting is that this game is also available on current gen consoles and that they've only had a 2 year development period, all that considered I think it looks great.

I haven't really been into CoD since 4 and WaW, then they started the yearly release thing and I felt like they were milking it. I skipped MW2 and went for Black Ops, but I just couldn't get into it like I did the old games.

This new game looks great though, all these new gameplay features have really gotten me excited to hear more info on it.

I want CoD to leave.
I honestly kinda think it is killing the gaming industry in this day and age. I mean, how can one find the same mindless shooting entertaining time and time again?
Then again, insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result, right?

I know what you mean, the worst part is just how little effort it actually takes to start a mudslinging contest.

One of my biggest problems with the start of this generation is the sneaking suspicion developers are going to put too much time and effort into making the games look good. Gameplay and music is what sells me on a game and its really dissapointing when I hear more about graphic engines and water effects than anything else.

I'm not too worried. I think all the talk you're/we're hearing is the typical buzz word fest we hear at every conference. These conferences are basically infomercials. They're trying to sell a product and they've got to garner appeal on the largest scale possible to increase their chances of success. Making something look pretty and letting everyone know you made it look pretty will often do that.

I think that the innovation will always be there though. Better graphics are nice, but good developers know that advancements in technology mean far more than that. Those who don't realize this are probably shitty developers anyway, so who cares what they do?

tl;dr - All this graphics talk has been around since forever. I don't see a reason to think it'll start damaging innovation in the gaming community all of a sudden.

Dilweedle By putting him in a different game, of course!
I think Watch Dogs wouldn't mind some actual dogs.
