The crowded world of MOBA is set to expand with a new challenger, as EA has formally unveiled its new game called Dawngate. This is a fantasy MOBA made by the team at Waystone Games, which appears to be a new studio spun-off from Visceral Games. That sudio was hiring for a MOBA back in October, so it's highly likely Waystone is the result. Dawngate aims to appeal to long time MOBA players while also offering a new way to play, although details are relatively scarce so far.
The official Dawngate website has the following to say on the game:
Dawngate is a new MOBA, built from the ground up to look and feel familiar while offering a whole new way to experience MOBA gameplay. Dawngate empowers you to forge the champions you love for the roles you want in a competitive arena, shaped by ever-evolving, community-driven content and story.
It certainly sounds like a nice take on the genre, especially with the community shaping the path it takes. Hopefully Dawngate's community is a little more forgiving than some others in the MOBA world, but time will tell.
Beta sign-ups are open now, however there's no mention of any type of a start date or even when Dawngate is planned to arrive. There are links to Twitch, Twitter, and YouTube on the Dawngate website, but unfortunately there's no content or posts on any of them. It's possible the reveal came a little earlier than planned, but regardless it happened. Expect more information on Dawngate in the coming months.
