The latest Xbox rumor concerns Microsoft's Points system, for their Xbox console. Seems the company is ready to kill the Points system in favor of gift cards -- at least, that's what reports are saying. While we have no official word at this moment, sources say that Microsoft will be dropping its Microsoft Points from Xbox.
So what's with the gift cards? Well, according to a report from The Verge, the new gift cards will work like Apple's iTune cards. Xbox owners will be able to buy currency to purchase content. Credit and debit card transactions will also be supported. Currently, Microsoft does offer gift cards through actual retailers, but the new system will combine the company's numerous marketplaces, like the Windows Store, Windows Phone Store, and Xbox Marketplace.
Microsoft has already moved away from virtual currency for Windows 8, opting for real money while claiming that Microsoft Points would remain an Xbox LIVE staple. We expect a confirmation on May 21, during the next-gen Xbox reveal.
