Electronics Arts has announced the creation of a new DICE studio in sunny Los Angeles today. The small studio will serve as Stockholm-based DICE's home base in the United States where they can recruit talent for their upcoming large-scale projects, specifically Star Wars. It's no secret EA wants to poach some talent from rival Activision Blizzard and their studios (Infinity Ward, Treyarch) in LA.
According to the Wall Street Journal, DICE General Manager Karl-Magnus Troedsson offered the following comment:
"There is an extreme talent pool over that we want a part of. It's no secret that our main competitor is there."
EA says they plan to increase the size of the studio up to 60 employees by the end of 2013, though some of those spots have already been filled by EA transfers who have worked on the Medal of Honor franchise. It's worth noting that EA recently let go of about 10% of their work force, or 900 of about 9000 employees.
There you have it, game developers. If you've ever dreamed of working on a Star Wars games for an outstanding studio like DICE, then here's your chance.
