It's a shame it will be digital only, but if this is the only way they can get an English language release to us, then I'll happily take it.

Perhaps if it does well, they might consider translating Investigations 2 as well.

This is such garbage news. Phoenix Wright games are some of the best available on the 3DS and Capcom's unwillingness to treat them so is unbelievably disappointing.

To be fair this game wouldn't have made it had the 3DS not had an Eshop. I'm ok with niche games being available digitally exclusively. I'm not ok with it being tied to the system but that's not really Capcoms fault IS IT NINTENDO.

Other than Mario 3Dland (which came with my 3DS) I refuse to purchase anything on the Eshop given the current setup, even if I so badly want Animal Crossing on my 3DS at all times. Especially since I'm planning on upgrading to a future revision whenever they come out with one (I can wait).

I understand where their coming from but it just doesn't sit right with me that they're just now complaining about the Ace Attorney games not selling and yet we have companies like XSEED and Atlus that actually make a living out of taking a chance on games nobody else would.

If long term support is the problem why not do a limited print at first and see how things go from there? I keep getting the feeling these bigger companies are just so used to big AAA games now that they don't know how to handle anything else.

..and the some four years in waiting release of AA 1-4 (that has already been released in Japan, and where all these games have been translated, and translated well, before for earlier releases) on android and iOS?

People should stop complaining. We could have not had this at all, which would have been a travesty. Or we could have had a SMT IV situation, where the game will cost $50 or more. Either way, we would have been royally screwed.
And yes, I do realize the eShop infrastructure isn't at where it should be, but it will get there. Everything takes time, and this is Nintendo's first step. We'll probably see Miiverse around MH4 or Pokemon, so that will install an account system. I would hazard to guess they won't tie the data down to a single unit, considering the fragility of the systems themselves (on my third 3DS, but mostly cause I drop them a lot/like the pretty colors ;D), but rather have it so that, should a system break, they can give you a code to redownload the data required to play the games onto a new system. Of course, this is all wishful thinking and probably won't be like that right away. We just need patience.
Of course, you can all go on complaining, but that won't help. Remember Megaman Legends 3? There was a ton of fan support, but nothing happened with that. We still haven't seen a new Megaman in a long time, despite the fan's pleas for a new entry in the series.

They could have also made a lot of money by porting it to iOS and Android devices. Imagine playing a game like this on a big ol' tablet-sized screen.

Better than nothing. I'd prefer owning a physical copy but downloading it is fine I guess.

As a collector, i'm definitely not buying the game since i'm not interested in DD. Poor choice for Capcom, that could have made a limited run of physical copies along with the mass DD distribution. Indie developers do it all the time for good profits.
Even if they did a 2k collector's edition limited run priced a 200$ it would have sold. Actually, i think it would have gone sold out in a few minutes of pre-order.

It would actually be tied to your eShop account, which can be recovered on different units.

Not the biggest fan of this, sure. But a Phoenix Wright game is still a Phoenix Wright game. I do hope Capcom changes their mind in the future, but if they don't... well I guess there's nothing to be done except buy it from the eShop.
