And so Kickstarter project Shadowrun Returns has hammered down its release date to June 26 from the previous window of summer 2013. Being one of the big original projects to be born from Kickstarter, raising a solid $1.8 million despite its meager $400,000 goal, its release will mean a lot to the quality of the Kickstarter process. That and, well, it's the freaking return of Shadowrun!
Buried at the heart of Shadowrun is the modern setting where magic has once again returned to the world, transforming the last generation of natural humans back into a mixture of orcs, goblins, dwarves and elves. Of course, we're not just going to drop our computers and return to the middle ages, so Shadowrun is entirely cyberpunk.
At its heart, however, Shadowrun Returns will stick to its table top origins:
"We approached the design of the story and individual runs the way we used to approach our tabletop gaming sessions by asking, What is the player trying to do here? How will players learn the info they need to learn? What obstacles/resistance/puzzles would be fun here?
Yes, it’s tricky and it’s challenging, and it’s different from how a lot of computer role-playing games approach development. But from the beginning, we weren’t trying to create a standard CRPG with the look and feel of Shadowrun. We were trying to make a tactical-RPG that felt like the Shadowrun tabletop game, influenced by the SNES and SEGA games."
Shadowrun Returns will be coming to PC and Mac on June 26. A big game made thought Kickstarter finally hitting shelves, who'd have thought?
“Shadowrun is alive and well after 24 years because of the fans and players who have kept it going,” he replied, “and I fully expect our players to design stories and gameplay in the Shadowrun Returns engine that blows us away – and hopefully keep the universe going for more decades to come.”

It has been pointed out to me that our source has since edited out the release date portion of its article, as well as all other sources of said release date seemingly being erased. I'll look further into it, but as for now it's worth mentioning that this information could be wrong.
