It sure would be nice if just about everything that uses the internet wasn't behind the XBL Gold paywall.

In a nutshell "be more like PS+ with extra services"

In reality: More ads.
Commercials every time the console starts up.
Commercials after every 2 hour long session.
game will not save and quit during these commercials, all progressed lost.
No more sales.
Everything behind a paywall.
XBL price increases to add more apps that are free everywhere else.

The last 2 are legitimate expectations. Microsoft raising the price of XBL in order to justify releasing more apps that are free elsewhere was by far the most retarded move in history. Considering the money they make off subscriptions and ads I don't see XBL changing in a major way anytime soon. Maybe, just maybe they'll throw us a free arcade game every now and then, or have a really spectacular service the first year or so of release (they've been known to remove features later on). Who knows, if we are lucky, maybe they'll even allow us to fully customize the dashboard and wallpaper!!!!!!

DedValve got it spot-on!

All they'd have to do is copy Playstation's system... It's free for all the basic connection functions like playing Halo/CoD/etc. matchmaking, and then you have your Plus system, that gives people some nice bonuses and miscellaneous features. Not even another Halo game will make me buy the Xbox 720/Durango/Whatever-the-hell-it-is now though!

Honestly, if they want to do anything, I'd love to see do what Steam does: offer tons of games and have very frequent discounts. Also, reduce the price on everything that ISN'T a game. Jesus, some of the aesthetic stuff is soooo overpriced. Total scam man.

Vita has the best PS service yet. All digital games are discounted compared to their retail version as they should be. This should be extended, digital games should always be cheaper than retail and should also drop with retail, especially since in 3 months games plummet in price yet digitally they never drop $10 for years disregarding the occasional sale (and even with those sales they are usually much more expensive than their retail counterparts).

These companies just don't get it. If you release a game digitally cheaper than it's retail version you get more people to buy it, you skip the middle man (more money for you), you decrease the risk, you lower used game sales, you reach out to a market thats already comfortable with digital services (and thus more likely to buy dlc, especially if they saved a pretty penny). There is almost NO dowside to the publisher/developer for doing this as proven by Steam. It's mind-boggling that this hasn't been done yet. Next gen needs to step up in this regard.

I'd much rather buy limited edition physical copies of games I adore or know will be rare and have everything else in a digital collection where I can save some dough (that I can then put towards said limited/collectors edition). Call of Duty 4 being $30 on the marketplace is just *bleep*ing disgusting and entices no one to get it.

Haha.

A discounts menu would be nice because it's not always easy knowing about current sales unless you pay enough attention. Wouldn't really care for "game of the month" - browsing Amazon or wherever will already tell you what's popular.

Man, if you're already paying for Netflix you shouldn't have to pay a fee just to use it. My PS3 and 3DS play Netflix for free, why shouldn't my Xbox? Not that I care for it anymore anyway, 360's Netflix app got janked up to be compatible with Kinect. Things start autoplaying while you're trying to read the description of what it even is, you have to wait for the first episode to load and start playing before you can pick the episode you actually want to watch, and they removed the party system that let you watch things with friends. They took what imo was the best app on Xbox and they ruined it.

Less adds, and not having to pay to watch netflix, WHICH I ALREADY PAY FOR. The fact that I get zero ads on my PS3 and it's free, but I get bombarded with cheetos commercials on my 360 which costs like 8 bucks a month is atrocious. If the 720/infinity/whatever costs money monthly, the PS4 will destroy it this console gen.

I'm just really glad that most of my favorite games such as Disgaea 1 and 2 (on PSN), and Fable on Steam got really cheap ($10 each).

A quick thing to mention: Everyone's "favorite game," Skyrim, is only $30 on Steam. Hint hint guys, make the digitals cheaper and more common.

Something I'd love is to get rid of that ugly menu! I like the one on PS3 because it's fully customizable, works well and runs smoothly, and there's almost no ads (are there ads on it?).

Xbox's is ugly and riddled with ads on almost each page.

It's worse when you have siblings that flop in front of the screen just to mess up your anime.

I think ads would be fine on an Xbox without gold subscription, but paying a subscription fee should at least make the experience ad-free. Ultimately, I would like to see Microsoft pander more to their customers and less to 3rd parties in order to boost profits. While I understand that the main focus of the company is profits, the main focus of gamers is....games. If Microsoft starts moving away from that then they will ultimately hurt what their main objective is: money, as gamers will go elsewhere.
