When Techland announced their upcoming first-person hack and slash game Hellraid I was initially quite skeptical. Are they trying to go in a medieval Left 4 Dead direction? Or a Dead Island with skeletons and evil sorcerers? Admittedly, I still have no idea, but with the release of this new trailer I can say one thing quite confidently: Hell. Yes.
Our trailer starts with a fairly typical overlook of dreary settings, a dark and dry dungeon filled with an assortment of torture devices, a spooky swamp with clinging tree branches, a bright citadel hallway that has fallen into decay, and a doorway with an arcane symbol written in... what looks like a mixture of lightning and blood. Alright, yeah, these are things that creep me out a little bit.
Then all of a sudden there's a skeleton swinging his sword, zombies getting filled to the brim with electricity, fireballs cracking skulls and plenty of blood, bones and body parts flying every which way. Yeah, this is kind of how I imagined fighting a horde of demons and undead with sword and sorcery might be like as a kid. Now they just need to let me gear up and show off my armor to my friends and call me Dante, I'm going on a Hellraid.
Hellraid is planned for release on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in the grand old year of 2013. It's developed by Techland, the makers of Dead Island and Riptide, and is a single-player or co-op hack and slash game where there's endless opportunity to gear up and dive deeper into the dungeon. Expect more news soon.
