In response to public outcry at the lack of cat-people in Star Wars: The Old Republic, the mysterious Cathar race will be added with patch 2.1. Electronics Arts confirmed the addition today in a short video, a teaser if you will, for the "Customization" 2.1 patch. When asked why they were outraged, fans responded, "Meow, meow, meow, meow, meow." Later, research showed that we interviewed a cat and not a cat-person.
In all seriousness, cat-people are a main-stay race in many MMOs. From Guild Wars 2's Charr race of ferocious cat people to Final Fantasy 11's Mithra cat-girls -- which have since evolved into Final Fantasy XIV's Miqo'te with both sexes. It's no surprise to see The Old Republic adding the Cathar, as beyond their feline face they otherwise don't require any additional model work. They're basically humans with cat heads.
Which is also why the Cathar are freaking terrifying. They look rather like Thundercats cosplayers instead of some sort of alien race. It also doesn't help that every character shown in the following trailer looks so drugged out of their mind as to be disconcerting. Yeesh.
Expect more information of Star Wars: The Old Republic's 2.1 "Customization" update and the addition of the Cathar race in coming weeks.
