What happens when you mix a disco inferno with Norse mythology? Check out the newly announced Soul Fjord to find out. From the developers of Quantum Conundrum, that's Airtight Games, comes a half rhythm game half rogue-like dungeon crawler. Designer Kim Swift describes the OUYA exclusive titled (console exclusive, that is) as "grindhouse-y" with " 'sploitation elements" and also disco wizards. Disco wizards.
Here's Swift further elborating on what sort of experience they're creating with Soul Fjord:
"As a team we have this sliding bar between '70s funk and Norse mythology. Every decision we make from music, to atmosphere, to characters, to environment we have to make a choice on where we want that slider to land. What that means to you is...Disco Wizards, Lounge Dragons, Norse-Funk music and the baddest Viking in town, Magnus Jones."
As mentioned above, Soul Fjord is currently planned as a console-exclusive title for the OUYA. That allows Airtight to bring the title to PC and mobile platforms too, but perhaps not initially. As for now, it appears OUYA and Airtight have partnered in some capacity to advertise that the console does in fact have some exciting games in the pipeline. As evidence check out the heavily scripted "developer diary" below.
Soul Fjord's trailer is much more interesting and that's also below, but fair warning -- it's an IGN exclusive reveal, so don't be surprised if some odd ads pop up on the thing or you find yourself uncomfortable while watching.
