The tide may have turned somewhat against the Dead Island zombie hunting franchise for the time being based on critical reception for Riptide, but that hasn't stopped fans from snapping up the sequel. Gfk Chart-Track confirms that Dead Island: Riptide was the top-selling game in the UK for the week ended April 27th 2013, though the research firm also points out that combined first week sales for the sequel were less than half of those scored by the predecessor in 2011.
It's still a solid showing for Dead Island in 2013, with the Xbox 360 version accounting for 71 percent of the total sales. And yes, those include the controversial Zombie Bait Edition. Injustice: Gods Among Us fell to second place after taking the UK sales crown the week before, followed by newcomer Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen. Coincidentally, the original Dragon's Dogma also made its big debut in third place back when it launched last year in the UK. Namco Bandai and Digital Extreme's latest licensed Star Trek video game also broke into the top five, no doubt thanks to the excitement surrounding the upcoming motion picture release.
Square Enix and Eidos' Tomb Raider reboot rounds up Chart-Track's top five best-selling games in the UK. It's a shame that the excellent worldwide sales for Tomb Raider thus far are nonetheless overshadowed by the publisher's own disappointment over the title's performance due to exceedingly lofty sales expectations.
