I've never seen the interest in the Shin Megami Tenshi or the Persona games... They artstyle is unattractive (to me, at least) and the gameplay is standard (again, to me).

To me, they're the Call of Duty of JRPGs: Incredibly overhyped but not exactly bad games.

I thought Final Fantasy would be the Call of Duty of JRPGs.

That would be more like it, wouldn't it? Incredibly overhyped and yet incredibly popular still.

Megaten game are not overhyped. In fact, they are much underrated, if you ask me. Persona 4 was the only really popular one and it wasn't really like the other Megaten. You can see what you see as "hype" in this forum because hey, it's somehow full of Megaten fans, but to compare the enthusiasm in this forum to the one for a massively popular game like CoD is comparing watermelons to grapes.

But enough about that.

I, for one, am SO looking forward to this game it's not even funny. The bonuses for the preorder just make me even more glad that I did preorder it, because I am a gigantic sucker for artbooks, guides and soundtracks. To have a game that's closer to Nocturne than P4 in terms of, well, everything makes it even better, since Nocturne is my absolutely favourite Megaten.

COD? of JRPG's, sorry what?, an SMT game coming here is rare, let me put it like this there are no SMT games on the PS3 and 360 or Wii, the last entries on a console levels were on the PS2 with SMT III: Nocturne, SMT raidou kuzunoha and that was all, three titles on PS2 that got a huge fanbse, standard? dude SMT made the standard, you should try SMT I, II and If for the SNES, or the persona games for PSP/PSX.

Sorry but there is a reason why these games are overhyped, Atlus puts care, a lot of care on each SMT, pumping the difficulty, dugeon making, plot making, general stuff, you migth been thinking of Persona 3 that got re-relased a total of two times (a Ps2 polish SP edition that had an epilogue and a PSP version with no epilogue), each game delivers and oozes quality, check the DS ones, DS1, Ds2 and Strange Journey all are deftnly not average.

It also fits in that when FF is/was doing bad a lot of people were claiming it was the entire JP section of the market falling which fits the whole situation of the mega-budget shooter scene right now.

My apologies, allow me to reword my points. In regards to the standard situation, it's the same case with Doom/Duke Nukem 3D. They're good games, and they set the standard for FPS games, but that's it. They perfected the basics, but because they practically started the genra, they had no need to add anything else to it. SMT sorta did the same thing: Mastered the basics, but didn't add much to it (again, in my opinion). The reason I compared it to CoD instead of Doom is because it seems like they re-release the same content again and again into new titles. It's a similar case to Disgaea; the games are very similar in each release without adding a ton of new content (for the record, I love Disgaea). SMT just doesn't really garner my attention, so my mindset already puts it into a 'meh' attitude, and it's gotten incredibly annoying for me because whenever I talk RPGs, it seems like half the crowd is just dying to bring up either SMT or Persona. I guess that it's been brought up in so many conversations that I've been in that it's gotten a quite nasty dislike from myself.

By all means, disregard anything I say considering that I simply have a grudge against the series.

Then you have been mislead, each game offers a new something, Persona offers a much easier battle system (this not to say Persona is an easy game), Nocturne introduced a secret ending and some of the most ball breaking bosses in history, ask any one ANY ONE about Matador, they will cray, like little girls, matador has a skill that raises his ATK and EVA a lot, Red Capote is called, and he can spam it, you on the other hand need to spam one skill that lowers his EVA, but if you dont have it game over, then we have the portable SMT games, DS 1 and 2 introduced new fusion mechanics, and a new battle system, ST was made using the same eninge of the original persona and it introduced a more active role of God and the Devil.

Hard to see why since it's a fantastic JRPG saga.
