Sony's PlayStation 4 is due to arrive later this year, and the already announced titles for it sound and look impressive. However, it sounds like a lot more is planned, as lead system architect Mark Cerny recently revealed the PS4 will have the strongest launch lineup in PlayStation history. He had the following to say in an interview:
The launch lineup for PlayStation 4 -- though I unfortunately can’t give the title count -- is going to be stronger than any prior PlayStation hardware. And that's a result of that familiarity.
It's a bold claim, but when you consider games like Killzone: Shadow Fall, Watch Dogs, DriveClub, and inFamous: Second Son, it starts to make sense compared to previous PlayStation launches. The PS2 had a very solid lineup at launch, however, we'll just have to see how the PS4 stacks up. Especially since there's so much more time to go before it arrives.
Cerny discusses a lot more in the interview at the source, like how he believes porting PC games to the PS4 (now there's a twist) should take "weeks" instead of months. The hardware between the two is extremely similar so hopefully his statement holds true. Sony hasn't announced an actual release date or even a price for the PS4, but maybe that'll become clear at E3 in June.
