Nintendo shipped out its 3DS XL Circle Pad Pro units today, with a US listing appearing on the official website. The peripheral was perviously a Japan-only thing, but now, those of us across the Pacific can have an extra nub for our 3DS XL handhelds. Well, those of us who actually own one.
Curiously, the 3DS XL Circle Pad Pro is going to remain online-only, as Nintendo forgoes retail. Sure, it's unusual, considering the previous Circle Pad Pro for 3DS was exclusive to GameStop.
When asked about the XL version being shipped to retailers, Nintendo replied, "There are no plans to sell this accessory at other retail locations at this time."
Makes sense if the company simply wanted to minimize risks. With the Wii U selling slower than originally anticipated, Nintendo is relying heavily on the continued success of their handhelds. That said, Shigeru Miyamoto has remained positive regarding the Wii U sales, noting that people just need time to warm up to the new console.
