Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn has only just begun "Phase 2" of its beta process, meaning that launch is still anywhere from three to six months away. In the interim however that means lots of gameplay details are starting to be revealed. Case in point, Square Enix released 50 (yes, 50) screenshots today capturing seven classes and seven jobs from the upcoming MMO reboot.
What's the relation between classes and jobs? Square Enix enlightens us:
"By achieving sufficient mastery in a certain class, adventurers will be able to begin undertaking the mantle of a related job. For instance, gladiators may rise up as paladins, stout swordsmen who shield comrades from harm; thaumaturges may aspire to become black mages, masters of offensive magic; while conjurers may find a new calling as white mages, masters of healing."
Oh dear, oh gosh. There's nothing more addicting in an MMO than the prospect of evolving your class into an even stronger class. It's why I spent so long playing Ragnarok Online, and half a dozen other MMOs. Square Enix have quite seriously placed a delicious cake in front of me and said, "Eat all you want, just wait a bit longer." Check out these screenshots below, which show the class to job evolution clearly, and then three more in-action shots of each job and class in the gallery.
Err, there's a lot of screenshots, so lets cover the details first. Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will be coming to PC and PlayStation 3. It's currently in closed beta after the servers went down for classic Final Fantasy XIV last year. The update is said to be complete reinvented with modern MMO sensibilities, and if the cinematics leading into the relaunch are any indication, there's definitely a higher sense of drama. Stay tuned.
One extra note: this list is missing one job and one class, as the total for each is eight and not seven. Missing is the Arcanist class, which will progress into the Summoner job.
