Shinji Mikami and Bethesda Softworks have unveiled Project Zwei -- officially. Introducing The Evil Within, which Mikami claims is designed for fans looking for a, "perfect blend of horror and action." Keeping with the horror theme, Bethesda gave the exclusive reveal to IGN and so the announcement trailer and all of the first screenshots are watermarked and hosted offsite. Terrifying.
Here's the brief quote provided by Mikami with today's announcement. For those unaware, Shinji Mikami is the mind behind the creation of the Resident Evil, including being the creative force behind the original title and Resident Evil 4. He then went on to develop God Hand, then Vanquish, and then founded Tango Gameworks which is the developer behind The Evil Within:
"We're incredibly proud to announce The Evil Within. My team and I are committed to creating an exciting new franchise, providing fans the perfect blend of horror and action."
In the trailer we see three messed up monsters, for lack of a better word. A man who looks oddly like Sling Blade covered in shards of glass, a woman with an extra set of arms who looks oddly like the witch from Left 4 Dead only covered in blood, and Mikami's answer to Pyramid Head, Safe Head, who has a butcher's apron and a giant meat tenderizing hammer of sorts. When the safe opens... oh dear.
Oddly enough, The Evil Within is being announced for current-gen consoles. According to the press release, expect the game on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC in 2014. Yes, a bit of a delayed, current gen release for the next big survival horror title, but certainly well worth the wait.
