Sega's project with Disney they've been teasing for "Summer of 2013" has been revealed. As commenter Elmarcoz and, err, apparently the rest of the whole freaking internet apparently knew, the project is a Castle of Illusion HD remake. Yes, the classic Sega+Disney partnership has returned for an entirely new reimagining of the classic game. Here's (not) a surprise for you -- Disney's Castle of Illusion is probably multiplatform?
Mickey will be back on the hunt to rescue Minnie from the evil witch Mizrabel, who plans on stealing Minnie's youth. This time around, however, Mickey will be traversing Mizrabel's castle in both 2D and 3D:
"We have also been working very closely with the director of the original game, who is now at Disney Interactive. We are having a blast working with her to realize many of the elements that were intended for the original game, but couldn’t be achieved until now due to the technical limitations of previous generation consoles."
What exactly Sega implies by "reimaginining" will be unclear until we actually get our hands on the game, but we expect they're definitely going to push the limits of what a "remake" truly can be. 3D!? I can't even... hopefully they don't change things too much. The addition of another dimension didn't work out too well for Epic Mickey and I'm doubtful it'll work here. Let's hope it's kept to a minimum.
As said earlier, Castle of Illusion will apparently be multiplatform. Other sites are reporting that the game will come to XBLA, PSN and PC, though as you can see in Sony's trailer for the game below, there are no other platforms listed in the late credits. I'll plow through my email inbox and try to find a contact who can confirm. Sorry for the mix-up!
