The last time SEGA teased something everyone was disappointed when it turned out to be a soccer game. This time around, SEGA is being a little more direct in order to quash speculation. Today, SEGA released a teaser trailer titled "Summer 2013" but the content therein is very clear -- SEGA is working on a Disney game. Also, it helps that the small print at the end has a Disney copyright.
As for the content of the trailer itself, there's some haunting imagery of a cloudy castle, toy soldiers marching in front of a toy drum and blocks, and what looks to be an evil queen staring out a castle window. She might be a nice queen, or princess perhaps, but the black and white filter makes me think otherwise. Color returns briefly at the end to show a ripe and red apple rolling across the screen. Don't eat, that, stupid! Haven't you ever watched a Disney movie before?
Consider my interest piqued. Still, let's be clear, it has been almost 20 years since SEGA worked on Disney game and that ended up leading to the creation of Bonkers. Even with the unique stop-motion aesthetic and Disney references, it's worth wondering what the deal is here. Which of SEGA's studios is working on this? Is this a third-party publishing deal? What Disney franchise is this?
I feel like this trailer is a meta-drug trip. Hopefully SEGA will have more information for us soon.
