Ubisoft finally decided it had been long enough since April Fool's Day for a full Blood Dragon reveal to not come across as a joke. Err, well it's still kind of a joke, but a serious joke, ya dig? A joke we're going to be able to play. Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is a standalone expansion to the original game featuring cyborg hero Sergeant Rex Colt in the year 2007. Your mission? "Figure out what the hell is going on."
Here's the short description we were provided to go along with the reveal trailer for Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon:
"You are Sergeant Rex Colt: Mark IV Cyber Commando. The year is 2007 and Earth has been ravaged by a nuclear war which erupted in the 90s. The east vs. west conflict has raged for generations, and humanity continues to struggle to progress after a disastrous decade. New paths for peace must be found, and the US cyborg army may have found a solution: a powerful bioweapon on a distant island. Your mission is to gather information and figure out what the hell is going on."
Just... just go watch the trailer. The mixture of classy 80's cartoons, 80's action movie nonsense and 80's style of borderline offensive ridiculousness should make most crack a smile -- if not throw money at their screen.
Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon will be released on May 1 as a standalone digital title, and PC pre-orders will pick up a free copy of the game's soundtrack from Power Glove (it rocks). Everyone's going to have to play this, because we've reinstated the draft for Vietnam War 2. The cost, according to Steam, is $14.99.
