LucasArts is now gone. What once was a healthy game developer is now a shadow of its former self, in place only to help license the Star Wars property out to other developers. The death of LucasArts has revealed what the studio was working on, however, something other than Star Wars 1313. A leaked video today shows of what LucasArts called "Project 2" or what they hoped would eventually be called Star Wars: Battlefront III.
Kotaku has the exclusive on this video, which shows a number of Stormtroopers hopping onto assorted vehicles and blasting off to do battle. Tanks, AT-ATs, and hoverbikes --oh my. The map looks like it's on Tatooine, but I could be wrong. The only other notable thing this video includes is all of my very conflicted emotions. All of them.
As of right now, "Project 2" AKA Star Wars: Battlefront III, Star Wars 1313 and the prequel to "Project 2" known as Star Wars First Assault have all been indefinitely shelved. Disney has said they'd consider licensing the material out to other developers, but it's in my humble opinion that the price mixed with the effort of taking on another studio's project are too burdernsome. It may be years before we see another Star Wars game.
