Just finished reading the preview article on Game Informer. Very pleased with it overall, except the combat aspect. They won't really alter it and whilst that's fine by me, I was hoping for something to keep it a bit more fresh.

Rocksteady has given some guidance on this project. And they are working on something. Everyone's itching for a new Batman game so I guess that's why Montreal is stepping up to the plate whilst Rocksteady takes their time with their next title. It's also mentioning the pros of working a prequel for the Arkham series, as Montreal can explore Batman's earlier years freely without having to worry about clashing with anything Rocksteady plans to do on the series' future. Now when they say Arkham's future I can't help but think of Batman Beyond. xD

Also, seems like the game's map is twice as large as Arkham City's. Old and New Gotham. So excited for this game!

Here's my train of thought:
*looks at cover* "Holy crap, is that Slade?!" *reads it's Deathstroke* "Interest lost!" *tosses magazine in corner*
Same person, Slade is his kid friendly name because Death is apparently too dark a word for a kid's cartoon.

Regardless, I'm excited if we're going to see characters outside of Batman's immediate universe. A shame that it's current gen though, but I suppose that might suggest it's been in development for a while, especially with it being a different dev, which in this case I'm all for. I felt like Arkham City was too samey to its predecessor so some new blood might be good for the franchise.
Shows what I know about the DC universe.

Very skeptical about this. Hope they don't ruin it. And if they are the makers of AC Armored Edition...It better not have a bad frame rate

Even worse than Rocksteady not making the game, Paul Dini isn't writing it.

For me, a big part of the problem is that I didn't have the upgrade to increase attack power as my combo went up, meaning that it took forever to take minor thugs down. Since they take so many hits, you'd think that the game would make it clear that you needed that upgrade early, or just give you that ability from the start, but here unassuming me goes thinking that I should worry about better armor to take hits and wasting hours of play hammering the same thugs over and over as they kept getting up, since the ground finisher was just asking to get smacked from behind.
It doesn't take that long, especially if you build up the combo meter, and can easily alternate and instant-knock down enemies in one hit, then ground finishing. I never bothered getting that damage power-up early, it was fun beating the hell out of thugs. I hope you never play The Amazing Spider-Man game, because it uses a similar format and that game -definitely- takes a while to beat down thugs. xD And we're talking about a guy with superhuman strength!

Well I'll definitely be picking up both Origins and Blackgate, but I'm dissapointed that Rocksteady have moved on =(

You're right though, that does excite me for what Rocksteady ARE doing.

I was really looking forward to it, but I could never seem to get into the game, mostly the combat was boring and frustrating to me.
You...thought the combat was frustrating? But it was perfect in its simplicity. Just by pressing attack and counter, you could take down a giant group of thugs and look (and as a player, feel) like a badass. If you add in things like gadgets the combat gets even more crazy.

And did you play the first game? Because the combat was basically the same...
I didn't play the first game, but if the combat is the same, I don't see what that would matter.

When I bought that upgrade things became easier, but still it felt like all I did was alternate between dodges and punches waiting for the meter to go up. Maybe throw in a counter, but the timing required to do so and the lack of damage it dealt out made that kind of unnecessary. Combine that with the various armors and shields that made counter useless in later fights and you end up with me yelling at the screen and turning off the game in frustration. I felt ridiculous taking the likes of Solomon Grundy and Clayface down in one go, yet dying multiple times from getting surrounded by random thugs just trying to look around a street.

For me, a stealthy adventure game should have one of two combat systems. Either let me take out random minions in two or three hits so I can choose to either play stealthy or play superhero, or make the enemies impossible to kill without stealth. This felt somewhere in the middle, and just didn't do it for me.

I don't want people to take me the wrong way though, this is my personal preference and I'm glad other people enjoy the game and combat more than I did. I really wanted to like the game, but all I kept finding myself thinking "Man, I'm playing as Batman with all the gadgets and the voices from one of my favorite shows ever, why aren't I having more fun?"
