Looks like decent fun, and for me personally, the pros far outweigh the cons. I haven't heard anything about the PS3 version of this game, though. If anyone has played it on one, are there any major differences?
There are a few hiccups here and there. Like others have said the frame-rate can take a hit now and then, particularly around Arkfalls (And if you're resurrecting a player near one, expect the frame-rate to drop to pretty much 0 for a bit.) Even still, I haven't encountered any major problems apart from one during the tutorial, and any issues I've had have been minor inconveniences.

The game itself is definitely tons of fun, and having an open world that is not only spacious but absolutely packed with other players is a refreshing change from the sheer volume of singleplayer open-world experiences out there. It's definitely a breath of fresh air as far as MMOs go with the gameplay, even if the base mechanics are virtually the same as other MMOs, the fact you're running and gunning rather than pointing and clicking makes for a refreshing and entertaining change.

I have an article I could link you to where I noted my experiences and opinions of the beta, which are pretty much the same for the main game so far. It's fun, but there's definitely room for improvement and it'll be interesting to see just how the game evolves over time with episodic missions released alongside episodes of the TV show.

Oh cool, now consoles are on a crusade to ruin MMOs too.
As somebody who mainly plays PC games, I have to say: consoles were home to Phantasy Star Online, as well as Phantasy Star Universe, which were arguably two of the best MMOs. If anything, the PC sees more Free-to-play microtransaction shovelware than the consoles do, so I wouldn't say the consoles have done anything wrong here. Comments like that are how the PC crowd gets their reputations as elitists.

It runs fairly well on the ps3, but I've had minor frame rate issues during the major arkfalls. Not to much of a dip in fps though.

I suppose I will give it some more time before trying it. Hopefully all of the issues will be addressed before too long. Thanks for the in-depth look at the game!

Oh, *bleep* off. >_>

You've got plenty of MMOs on PC. Let some console gamers get a chance at one. Defiance is tons of fun and I'm glad they actually bothered to make it multiplatform. A little rough around the edges and a few hiccups around launch, but every MMO has that. I'm looking forward to seeing how the game develops depending on how the show plays out.
