I hope that what this guy is saying has nothing to do with the direction Durango is going in.

I also hope people will finally realize that Microsoft does not a give a shit about the customer.

I wonder if this scenario will actually lead MS to make their console have offline capabilities now. Maybe something good will come from this guy's silly tweets? (INCREDIBLY UNLIKELY.)

I can only hope that the overwhelming negative public response to this is enough to tell companies that an always-on console is a terrible idea.

At the end of the day, all companies are in for the money. But out of the three you mentioned, only one has a track record for screwing customers with stuff like this and Xbox Live.

Doesn't matter.
It'll still be better than the crap Nintendo is releasing.

Anyway at this rate it looks like the PS4 is going to best home console unless Sony *bleep*s up the price again. :V

Right, because Sony & Nintendo have never done anything wrong.

That is beautiful

Anyway, I was already going to buy a PS4 but this basically makes me think that, if this is true, Microsoft won't even be a serious competitor next generation.
And with Wii-U disappointing Nintendo fanboys across the globe, maybe Sony will return to the console war dominance they had with the first two PlayStations?

Serious or not he should have known better than to shoot his mouth off like that, being an employee at Microsoft people will be watching and that sort of behavior reflects badly on the company as a whole.

I really peoples' reaction to this makes Microsoft think twice about going "always online" if they actually are planning to.

Unlikely. They are set to announce it in another few months. That would be a pretty big change and corporations are typically hesitant to do big changes like this.

I know which next gen console to avoid now. I would probably have it online most of the time anyhow, but the times where I have to forego internet connection, like moving and waiting to get it set up or having to disconnect it for various reasons, I'd rather it not become a paperweight.
