Wow. I, for one, will not be purchasing the next-gen Xbox if it has to have an always-on internet connection. My internet connection isn't great (it can be in-and-out most days), so if it's going to be necessary to have an internet connection to play single-player games I enjoy (NBA 2K13, for example), then I'll just stick with my Xbox 360 and maybe get a PS4 when it comes out if I can afford it.

I never thought I'd say that as I love my 360, and figured you can't go worse with the new Xbox, but apparently you can.

Yeah... I'm glad I stuck with a PS3 for the rest of this gen. Not trying to start a console war here, but if this is the kind of unprofessional employees Microsoft is going to have next gen, then I don't want to support them at all.

imo: Microsoft has been disappointing the last few years. If the 720/Durango/whatever is going to have always on DRM, then that just seals the deal for me to get either a PS4 or Wii U and not support Microsoft.

And if I had to be honest, if their next console flops, I wouldn't object to them just backing out of the console race for good. We could use SEGA back anyway.

Yep, if I don't have a gaming pc by then, ps4 gets my sale until a smug asshole tries to piss me off there

Er, not to defend Orth's opinion or anything, because I definitely don't agree with it, but y'all do realize all of this drama is over the man's personal opinion, right? Not an actual press release issued by Microsoft or anything of the nature.

What we know about the "Durango" right now is pure speculation, for the most part. It's much the same for Wii U and PS4 before they were announced -- or any new console, for that matter.

It's good for marketing.

see, this is part of why i don't buy ubisoft games. because they have always online DRM for pc users. blizzard is also partially guitly, but to be fair, MMO's are built around always online, diablo 3 i got as a freebie from a promotion, and starcraft 2 has an offline single player mode once you authenticate once.

honestly, if always online is a requirement for "next gen" consoles, then i don't want one. ill be fine with my pc and wii u. having broadband internet should not be a requirement to play single player games, doing such a thing unnecessarily limits who can use your product and where they can. it's bad business.

This guy is a douche.
I will not be buying the next xbox if it requires a constant Internet connection.

Tons of xbox fanboi's on here and my heart goes out to them, this is rough. However always online is certainly the future for everything no matter how much you may/may not like that. This gen, or two gen's from now it's going to be a reality. Can't stop the future.

Still an employee who should be careful of what he says, especially on a public Twitter account. I know I would be facing sanctions, possibly even dismissal, if I brought my organisation in to disrepute.

Anyway, this is a fantastically bad idea, and I say that as an Australian (the world is bigger than Seattle!) with an exceedingly poor internet connection. Thank God I am part of the PC master race.

I like the part where he set his tweets to private. Shows that instead of openly apologizing for his arrogant comments, he tries to do damage control. I bet he's getting an earful over at Microsoft HQ.
