It is basically the same as the Metal Gear Solid Extreme modes where you lose instantly if you are caught and many of the little things that help you out are lost.

after watching the trailer
for me I am not really interested as the voice actor sounds so generic & sh!t the original Garrett voice actor was bloody good and the character model looks like crap now so far I know there is not much out there about thief 4 but it does not look good I love thief I still play them to this day thanks to gog.com I have played them over 10 times each I just hope thief does not go the same fncked up and screwed over way that piss off fans and destroys the game like a lot sequels these day

and a heads up if you don't know

" The next-gen console versions of Thief will likely be capped at 30 frames per second, Eidos Montreal producer Stephane Roy has suggested, telling VideoGamer.com that he would "prefer to have better physics" in PS4 Thief than a smoother "60 frames per second frame rate "
and

" Roy's comments reflect those made by id programmer John Carmack last year, who predicted that "a lot of next gen games will still target 30 fps Other PS4 games, including Guerrilla's first-person shooter Killzone: Shadow Fall, also appear to be targeting 30fps."

It should have being reversed.
There should be a special mode for combat.

But I can assure you that the word "assassin" has never been relevant in the Thief games. I'm not so sure about the new one, however.

ssjgoten I know that. I'm just saying in recent games there seems to be this giant association of thieves and assassins that really shouldn't be there.

So in other words there will be a special mode that allows you to play the game like the previous Thief installments? Awesome! Thief should always focus on sneaking and stealing, and while the combat should be good, it should never be a main focus point.
I hope the light gem is still going to be in this game...
Slow motion abilities? *Sigh* >>> Hitman Absolution -_-

Well, that's good.
I'm glad we're separating the burglar and the garden-variety hitman.
It never made sense when I played a game about being an "assassin" and I was awarded for not killing people.
Garrett has never been an assassin though.

It's kind of funny that there even needs to be special "sneak" mode for a game where you play as a master thief. It's great that they're giving players a choice, but from the description here, it sounds like the "stealth mode" will simply be a higher difficulty setting. Presumably if you are discovered by the guards then you still have to fight (Or run I suppose). So how is that mode actually encouraging you to be stealthy more than conventional mode? Is it just because killing is too hard?

And in here lies the difference between a thief and an assassin.
