With the closure of LucasArts confirmed yesterday, there's likely at least 150 previous employees who would love nothing more than to talk about their experiences. Kotaku, naturally, has found at least one of them. The anonymous source was able to confirm that Star Wars 1313, confirming fan theories, was in fact a story about the bounty hunter Boba Fett. This... this is going to sting for a long, long while.
Star Wars 1313's premise was scrapped and rebuilt multiple times over, but it wasn't until last may that George Lucas saw the game in motion and told the team at LucasArts he wanted it to be about Boba Fett. Oddly enough, six months later he decided he didn't want to be making decisions about Star Wars anymore. Still, the team at LucasArts likely reveled in the opportunity, as would any proper nerd. The concept art above is said to be from LucasArt's work on Star Wars 1313.
For now, however, Star Wars 1313 will go into the vault of unfinished products. While the studio behind the game has been closed and Disney has no intention of restarting development on its own, they have said they may be willing to license out the property to another developer. I remain skeptical of such a thing. Perhaps Boba Fett may star in a future game, but it's doubtful the project that is Star Wars 1313 will ever be set free of its carbonite tomb.
