If we get enough of these DLCs, we could actually mimick real life cities to see how well they work!

Then I could build where I live, and see just how many f*cking 7-11s there are in Manassas. God damn, they even have 7-11s next to 7-11s here.

EA should focus on allowing community modding instead of new DLC.

Community modding is not possible in the game's current state. At one point anyone mentioning modding on the official forums would get you banned/topic deleted.

The bad news is it's about as subtle as a flying brick.
Lol.

There it is! Was wondering if it would be free or not. Talk about ham-handed product placement though, didn't expect it to be that obvious. Then again, filenames did have NISSAN plastered all over them, so I guess it couldn't have been too much of a surprise. Everybody who is near/interacting with it being happier is a funny touch though. It's almost like a commercial in your video gam-
Oh, right, it is a commercial in a video game.

Guess the only other thing that ties in with a real company, is the Red Cross DLC? Didn't remember any others on the list anyway. Can't imagine that going over poorly though, unless the building is a giant donate button or something.

Instead of "pay to win", this is "get advertising to win"?

EDIT: I misread. Ithought we werent able to mention it here.

Why are Maxis against modding?

Nice, so now on top of horrendous launch problems, DRM, no ability for improvement mods, AND innevitable flood of DLCs, we get in-game advertising. Holy crap, EA, how much money do you actually need before you're satisfied? Just kill the game already, you've done terrible things to SimCity's good name that even Societies couldn't have done in their dreams.

It isn't Maxis that's against modding it's EA.

Modding cuts into DLC profits in this case, CTTR champion. People can choose free variants of content that don't benefit EA, rather than getting Product Placement Cars or paying for a jail or whatever.
Skyrim's a good example of how to sell DLC while also allowing mods, because the DLC for Skyrim is really, really expansive and good. It's not just dime a dozen content adds, there's things that come with it, it's overall enticing. If Bethesda only ran small content DLC like EA/Maxis plans to here, it would never sell, because players already do that for free with modding.

As much as I dislike Skyrim for its combat, you make a good point. Bethesda knows what their fans expect.

Is anyone genuinely actually that bothered about product placements such as this? What I do find unsubtle is the disdain shown for product placement expressed in this article which I can't help but feel is perhaps a little OTT, especially considering the fact this DLC is optional anyway. Personally I feel the use of real products in games can actually enhance immersion and improve realism sometimes, particularly when the item in question is harmonious with the game's landscape such as this.

The Nissan charging station looks cool to me.
