Good question! I loved the boss fights and thought they were pretty intense. I have heard that players who had a more hacking / stealth oriented Adam complained that they were too hard. I know that the typhoon came in really handy when fighting the first boss, but it's still possible to beat him with other strategies.

daved Common complaint is that they're broken, for a number of reasons. You'll find videos of players completely cheesing bosses, while others who spec'd Adam differently (stealth, for instance) are boned.

Why the boss fights received a lot of flak in a nutshell:

If you're playing it as a shooter, boss fights will be really easy, but any off-beat builds focusing on other mechanics kind of get the short straw. Which stood out a lot, because the level design for anything leading up to boss fights was very good at allowing multiple kinds of approaches and builds. I guess it's not so much a problem of the boss fights being bad so much as it's a problem that they don't fit the game.

What Lorx said. The boss fights aren't bad as traditional shooter boss fights, but this is a stealth game. You get rewards for not killing people and going around unnoticed, and boss fights just throw all those things away (as does the last level).

I made Adam well rounded and thought the battles were a decent challenge relative to the rest of the game, but I guess I can see how it could be hard to the point of frustration for a hacking / stealth heavy Adam. Still, I wouldn't go so far as to call them "abysmal"

Anyway, I wonder how they will improve the bosses for hackers. If they just put in a computer terminal where you can turn turrets or drones against the boss, I think that would get old fast. Likewise if they change it so you can sneak up on bosses. Perhaps the new skills will come into play but then that still wouldn't solve the "what if I didn't take that skill" problem.

Square Enix is now saying that in the Director's Cut, you can take down bosses without firing a single bullet.
