Atlus just sent us a very late email confirming Shin Megami Tensei IV would be coming to North America. It's likely the publisher had the press release lined up for yesterday, but with it being April Fool's and all waiting until today was probably a safe bet. Still, midnight announcements? Hopefully the Shin Megami Tensei crowd is up this late to appreciate it. Expect the 3DS title this summer.
CEO of developer Index Digital Media Naoto Hiraoka made the following promise to fans:
"The return of the legendary Shin Megami Tensei series is one of the biggest milestones yet for ATLUS and the 3DS. Since this is the first title from the original SMT series in a decade, we tapped the best developers from many of ATLUS' acclaimed projects including Nocturne, Strange Journey, Persona, and Soul Hackers to create a premium experience that lives up to our fans' and our own expectations."
While I've never played a game in my life and thought afterwards, "Mmm, that's premium," Hiraoka's intention still shines through. Atlus and the Shin Megami Tensei developers are dedicated to bringing fans authentic, complex experiences and they won't ever hold back on that.
Its been over ten years since the last release in the main Shin Megami Tensei franchise, but Shin Megami Tensei IV is bringing it back with style. Demon collection and fusions, choice and consequence, and a complicated world of samurai, gods and untold evil, it's exactly what 3DS owners are pining for. Look forward to Shin Megami Tensei IV on 3DS this summer.
