Near the middle of February, Wargaming.net announced it had acquired Gas Powered Games, which was good news for the latter considering it was facing closure. At the time it wasn't entirely clearly what Wargaming had in mind for GPG, but luckily some clarification has emerged now that GDC 2013 is over. Speaking in an interview, GPG founder Chris Taylor confirmed the studio is working on a "free-to-play, triple-A MMO with PvP" that fits in line with other Wargaming titles.
Taylor also said Gas Powered Games has been tentatively renamed Wargaming Seattle though: "That's not 100 percent sure, but it's not a bad thing to say."
While he couldn't say anything further on that F2P MMO due to it being in the early stages of development, Taylor did say the failed Kickstarter game Wildman isn't being worked on. Maybe it'll be revisited sometime in the future, but the focus is now on the new F2P game. He also wouldn't comment on whether the new game includes "World of" in its title, but odds are probably good given Wargaming's naming history. Expect information on Gas Powered Games/Wargaming Seattle's new project over the next few months.
Some good news to take away from the acquisition is that Taylor has been able to rehire much of the former team. Numbers are around 30 right now with it rising all the time, which is fantastic to hear in this economy.
