Man, the WiiU's just not having a lot of luck, but how could it? It's not the next generation.
What a shame.

they are now focused on pc and current genplatforms? the wii u is the ONLY current gen platform currently released. i would consider xbox360 and ps3 last gen by now, with durango and ps4 devkits already out in the wild (i think).

they are just too lazy to develop a working version of the engine that will run elegantly on the wii u's custom silicon. i suppose the real question is how compatible unreal engine 4 is with unreal 3? if they originated from the same codebase then it shouldn't be impossible to re-tool a U4 game to run on U3 (which is proven to run on the wii u).

its a damn shame, i would have gotten battlefield 4 if it were on the wii u (or steam). i just am not a fan of origin.

"Mark Rein explained that they simply aren't aiming for the current era of "PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, or Wii U. It's next-gen technology.'"
WiiU is a joke not to mention Blops2,ACIII,ME3,etc. All sold terrible on the WIiU iirc
It'd be a aste of time to develop a WiiU version when the WiiU is flopping and not to mention most of the people that own a WiiU as of now don't care about the "mainstream" games judging by the sales.

Not really a surprise, but yeah, I guess this is proof that the Wii U is not next-gen.

Definitely, Wii U isn't a next gen console, priced at high as well, if the trend continues that way, Wii U will suffer the same miserable fate of Game Cube sooner rather than later.

The eventuality of the success of next gen consoles are on the horizon, Nintendo needs to do something, otherwise...

P.S. PS4 and Xbox 720 and of course, PC all have a great leeway to compete with each other in the coming years...Psychological Battle of Spec & Graphics continues and will be great to watch! (Just like North Korea??)

The Dreamcast comes to mind when I read articles like this. What is crazy is the Dreamcast failed because EA pulled support. This is arguably worse as granted it's not a case of a publisher pulling support this time, but when close to 90% of modern engines aren't supported by your console you are severely limited for games..

I mean Unreal Engine 4 doesn't run, Frostbite 3 doesn't support it, FOX Engine likely doesn't support it. What does that leave? Unreal Engine 3 and Unity? One of which is being phased out once the last few current-gen games are finished, it's a sorry state of affairs really.

I thought a lack of user support would kill the Wii U in the end, but when I thought that I was going to be like GameCube and happen 2-3 years into its life. This though could kill the system far sooner. We're looking at a time frame of 9 months until pretty much all third party games stop coming to Wii U. With no 3D Mario, Zelda or anything system seller-ish on the horizon as of yet there is nothing to keep this console alive.

Not surprised by this at all. I'm racking my brain trying to figure out what Nintendo was hoping to accomplish with the Wii U, but can't come up with anything.

They released their console halfway between the old and next-gen of consoles. They shot themselves in the foot here, by sacrificing the power of their next console just to get it out quicker, and yet because of this their new console is about as powerful as the ones that've been around for 7-8 years already, with the new ones just on the horizon.

This means that their new console isn't powerful enough to run the next-gen games that will be coming soon and thus will not be receiving new games, due to the fact that there are three platforms coming soon that will outpower the Wii U (PC, Xbox 720 and PS4) that can be developed for simultaneously because they're similar in hardware specs, but the games will not be backwards port-able to the Wii U because it just isn't powerful enough and not worth the time (this would be like porting a Gamecube game to the N64) from the dev's/pub's perspective.

Thus the Wii is relegated to exclusives and games developed for current-gen. This is a problem because the current-gen is about to be phased out, meaning no new games for those systems and no new ports to the Wii U. It's highly unlikely that development of current-gen games will continue for long after the next-gen consoles land, because the Wii U already has a low adoption rate due to everyone who'd be interested in the ports already owning a PC, Xbox or PS3 and getting them there because they already own it, and then hopping to the next platforms when they come out. I imagine these people would rather use the money they'd potentially use on the Wii U on the next-gen platform of their choice.

That leaves the Wii U with its library of exclusives alone. Problem is, because of the aforementioned low adoption rate, and the very quickly upcoming next-gen with a much wider potential audience, it doesn't make much sense to develop a game exclusive to a console that has a very small userbase compared to the much larger combined userbase of the new platforms (which they wouldn't be able to port forward to unless they put significant effort into beefing it up for the more powerful systems, at which point why even bother with the Wii U in the first place and get the stigma and problems of being a port rather than developing for the new platforms directly), nor to develop a game for the old systems nobody uses anymore just to port to the Wii U, because they've got the newer, more powerful systems.

So yeah, not sure what Nintendo was expecting with the Wii U.

Wii U is not next gen..people who keep saying that are idiots. What is next gen? Cutting edge graphics and shitty gameplay? Or the same rehash of first person shooters? Alright So Nintendo isnt just a hardware company you know..they make software too. As a fan of gaming. I quite frankly dont give a shit how graphics and specs are. All I care is is the game good. I mean my god people ever article I've seen about the Wii u is saying something about the graphics and games that arent really console sellers. Western developers dont support it cause they hate it. People naturally hates what's popular. Oh the Wii u is flopping. So I guess so did the xbox 360 and Ps3 since the sold less consoles in the same time span right? The stupidity of the gaming community never ceases to surpise me.

Man the WiiU isn't doing bad because it sold more then a $600 console and a console that when it was released there were number of shortages in supplies!
Not to mention even though the PS3 was doing bad in the beginning none of the 3rd party companies dropped the support for it unlike the WiiU.
Only way Nintendo seems to get 3rd party games are if they pay for it like Bayo,101,etc. Or ports of the PS3 and 360 games.
What will happen when they stop releasing games for the PS3/360? It seems like it won't get a single 3rd party game then.

Or the same rehash of first person shooters?
Oh so releasing the same rehas shooter isn't allowed? ut realsing the same 100th mario game is ok?

Oh the WiiU is popular? Hahahaha

I love it when people say the 1st party games will make it a hit. Yup just like the Gamecube and n64? Eh?
WiiU is the next gamecube.

While its true that what generation a console is apart of isn't determined by specs, its still a bad idea to build an underpowered console. Nintendo doesn't need to match the competition they just need to make sure their console is close enough. The only thing I can see is they underestimated third-party developers and thought they'd flock to Wii U and/or were hoping the Wii's popularity would instill consumer confidence in their next console. Either way they seem to think the Wii U will sell itself.

The Wii U isn't doing great because it doesn't really have anything new to offer atm. Someone mentioned how poorly the re-releases are going, well yea thats obvious. The majority of gamers (I use gamers as a group here) have more than one console meaning they already own the games. Then there is the Rayman fiasco that was on here a few weeks back.

The console is barely more powerful than the PS3, it's not a case of them not making the engine work on their hardware. It's a case of the software greatly outclassing the hardware.

you guys must be trolls. =P once again who cares about voilent games. thats all you "core gamers" care about. Its not about rpgs or shoot em ups or action adventure. Nope you guys dont know other genres of games exist. No when I say popular I say Nintendo. Aww you guys just hate cause your precious AAA games cant sell as well as a Nintendo game? Thats soo cute :3. I dont know about but this generation is gonna suck soo much balls. Graphics and specs are all you people care about and they do nothing to addto the gameplay. I sure hope Nintendo wins this gen so you guys can shut up. =P
