Slash Well, Mario's practically a household name, and has been for the last twenty-something years. It's not like many people hate Mario games (though these recent ones have been... mediocre), but those games started slow. The only reason they're milking Mario as much as possible is because they very much can. There's a lot of elbow room before Mario can "die out". With Assassin's Creed however, it's a fairly new series, and I even remember hearing that the third game was less than spectacular for most people. Being as new as it is, it has little elbow room to make big mistakes with.

Long story short; Assassin's Creed doesn't quite have the credibility that Mario has, and could topple very easily with an on-flux of rehashes. The only reason people keep buying the game, be it hit or miss, is because the game certainly has one thing--potential and creativity.

Slash
Also, Mario is not a story-based franchise. None of its games really have any relevance to any of the others. The stories are not really connected. It's like Final Fantasy games. It's technically the same franchise, but none of their stories ('cept 10 and 13) are related. Plus, it's an arcade-ish accessible game. Pretty much anyone can play Mario and has at least heard of it.

Honestly, AC was only good because it had Italian characters (like Mario!). Now that they ruined that, the series will go to trash . [jests]

So just because AC is new it shouldn't be milked? It's been working with CoD it'll work with AC.
Mario shouldn't be getting any slack just because it's old. I honestly feel sorry for anybody who bought another version of the New Super Mario bros series.

Slash It's not so much that it shouldn't be milked, it's just a very risky idea.
And yes, NSMB 2, Wii and WiiU were rather bad, but at the same time there's many a good Mario game such as Galaxy or Sunshine. Mario has a pretty swell slate, to say the least, and it appeals to all audiences, young and old, where as CoD ranges from ages 7-23. CoD will most likely die soon enough, if Activision and IW keep rehashing the game. With Assassin's Creed, or so my experience tells me, has a large adult consumer-base. Kids do play it, but they may not take all of what the game really is due to lack of education/need for action/etc., which is considerably smaller than the audience that Mario has or ever has had.
It's just a dangerous idea, really. I wouldn't try the yearly hash if I were Ubisoft, but who knows? I've seen Ubisoft pull off some surprises in the past.

AC3 got record sales for the series, you can't really blame them for continuing to release the games annually. And, with the appeal of Pirates (not ninjas, much to IcarusAbides dismay), there is no doubt that the series sales figure record will be broken again. AC gets a lot of stick for being so annual, but in all honesty, they only run out of ideas when they've run out of places in history to explore. Which won't be for a long time yet.

It's almost as if the idea of exploring the past with the animus set up the franchise to last a long time...

Wow, this game is awesome! I've just seen some genuine gameplay footage (probably from the demo version of the game) here:

I think this series is going to die off even before it gets to the climax.
Seriously Ubisoft, Why?
Thought AC3 was meant to be the big climax we were all looking for? As long as Ubisoft keep selling millions of copies each year, they'll keep dropping cliff hangers and not need to reach a definitive 'climax'

Another franchise to die by franchise fatigue. Oh and it had such potential too.

I think DedValve meant about the quality of the series, and really just in it for money.

People know, even with the development time of 3 it still sucked which is why people are able to realize that the series is going downhill. Fast.

Personally, I haven't been completely in love with an Assassin's Creed game since AC:II. Brotherhood was good, I've nearly forgotten about Revelations, and I'll only play AC:III again if I feel like sending an arrow through someone's skull (but Tomb Raider has me covered there, so maybe not). I'm hoping I'll love Black Flag, it's looking good so far and Benjamin Hornigold (aka best pirate to ever exist) has been confirmed as a character. However, AC:III was extremely hyped up and the game itself was mediocre. The core of the games is always going to be Assassins vs. Templars - and no matter how different the plots are, it gets boring. We get it, the Templars are bad and we have to go and kill them. Why not a game set in Eden? Or are we just going to forget about that unlockable video in Brotherhood? Shouldn't they be attempting to obtain first-hand knowledge of the gods, with Juno released?

Take a few years off, Assassin's Creed. Your core story line is too repetitive to be chucking a game out annually.
