As a backer of the original Double Fine Kickstarter project for what is now known as Broken Age, it's rather miraculous to see the game finally coming together. Kickstarter backers get exclusive access to a behind-the-scenes documentary cataloging the game's development, so I've watched the game's evolution from Tim Schafer's notebook pages to concept... to this. This first teaser trailer for Broken Age is, well, it's simply stunning.
While I won't spoil anything from the documentary, it has been a while since they've actually shown anything from the game -- let alone a full sequence of the game in motion. Basically, this is everyone's first look at what the game may actually look like as you play it. Unfortunately all of the content herein is not player-controlled, but it's still likely all from footage straight from the game's engine. Double Fine has brought a painting to life.
As for gameplay, I think we all know exactly what to expect from Broken Age. Clicking on items, sticking them in our inventory, using them to McGuyver our way out of precarious situations. Ah, the glory days. It's good to see Tim Schafer and crew back at doing something gamers recall so fondly, but stepping their game up to prove we've only just started exploring what this genre is capable of.
Speaking of Broken Age and Kickstarter, you can still preorder the game and get access to... well, quite literally dozens of behind-the-scenes features including the documentary. Check out the official Broken Age site for more information.
